Well said. I was contemplating this ever since Github CoPilot and then ChatGPT arrived. They are great at reusing and recycling and building on what has already been done before. But they won’t invent something completely new.
On the other hand the vast majority of today’s programmers doesn’t do anything unique. Just another app, api or a website. The uniqueness and innovation is usually in the business concepts, not in the actual program. If the business owner can describe his idea in a freeform language and the AI comes up with a working program then the majority of coders will eventually become obsolete.
Few will be needed to work on the truly innovative concepts. The rest should better start looking for alternative career paths.
