We may be the last generation that reads books printed on paper. We grew up with them, we used them at school, we feel that that’s what books should look like.
My kids, young adults already, grew up with a device in hand. For them ebooks are the norm. They don’t seem to understand the whole concept of carrying around an extra weight, a bunch of papers stitched together, when they can get the same content in an iphone app that they have available 24/7.
And from there it’s a short jump to multimedia books, augmented books, and what not. For us that gap is too large but for the youngsters it will feel a lot more natural. Once they are the majority of the market the new trends will take off.
